How It Happened

In the first half of the men's soccer battle for pirate supremacy, the Buccaneers and Corsairs combined for 10 shots, seven by the Buccaneers, and just one corner kick from Maritime. Needless to say, the first half ended in a 0-0 tie.

It took 13 minutes of the second half, but the Buccaneers broke through on Calvert's ninth goal of the season on a breakaway in which he ran through four UMD defenders. The goal put the Buccaneers up for good, but they weren't done yet. Late in the half, with under five minutes to play, Butzbach scored his first Maritime goal to make it a 2-0 game. Shortly after the ensuing kickoff, the Buccaneers earned themselves a corner kick. Munroe set up to take it and delivered a ball to the front post, which slipped through the Corsair goalie's hands and into the goal to give Maritime a 3-0 lead with under four to play. The Bucs saw the game out and earned the three points from the 3-0 victory.
