GORHAM, Maine -- Men's lacrosse took on Southern Maine on Friday afternoon in a final tune-up before the Little East Conference Playoffs next week. Convincingly, the Buccaneers scored 20 for the fourth time this season, downing the Huskies, 20-5.

• Teddy Lynch led all scorers in the game with four goals. James Sullivan, Sawyer McCutchen, and Aiden Bengtson each scored two. Michael Ryan, Chilton Cabot, Eli Ikkela, Liam Cogavin, Mason McNulty, Cooper McIntire, Cole Jenkins, Joe Vricella, Zach Gambill, and Ryan McDonough all scored once.
• Daniel Kane and Nico St. George had two assists in the win. Cabot, Carson Percival, Cooper Barrett, Aidan Callahan, and Gambill all had one helper.
• Jenkins led the way with seven ground balls and won 12 of the 13 faceoffs he took in the game. Dylan Taylor won seven of the eight faceoffs he took in the win.

• Rodrigo Rego-Araujo scored two goals in the loss. Lucas Rego, Zach Smith, and James Kastrinakis all scored once. 
• Owen Gaulrapp and Rhys Bridges each had one assist.
• Nick Shevchenko had five ground balls to lead the Huskies, and he won five of the 19 faceoffs he took in the loss.
• Defensively, Colby Chavarie caused a game-high four turnovers.
• In total, Southern Maine picked up 23 ground balls, was successful on 20 of 29 clearances, won six of 28 faceoffs, and took 23 shots in the game.

How It Happened

The Buccaneers scored their first goal 90 seconds into the first quarter and went on to score seven unanswered. With 11 seconds left in the quarter, the Huskies scored their first goal. The Bucs led 7-1 after one.

In the second, Vricella and Gambill scored for the Bucs in the opening minutes to extend the lead to 9-1. USM scored at 7:36 to make the score 9-2. In the last six minutes of the quarter, Maritime scored four more times to take an 11-goal, 13-2, lead heading to the break.

The Bucs scored the first two goals of the third quarter to get their total up to 15 goals. Then the Huskies scored to make the score 15-3. The Bucs scored two more in the third and led 17-3 at the end of three.

Southern Maine scored two goals in the first four minutes of the fourth quarter, the most goals they scored in a quarter in the game, to bring the score to 17-5. The Bucs got goals from Lynch, Bengtson, and McCutchen in the final 4:33 of the game to take the final regular season game of 2026 20-5 over the Huskies.

The Buccaneers will host a Little East Conference Semifinal game on Thursday, April 30th, at 7 pm at Clean Harbors Stadium. Their opponent will be determined by the quarterfinal games on Tuesday.
