How It Happened

Maritime scored first at the 11:58 mark of the first on Sullivan's first of the game. The Hawks matched it at 10:36 to tie the game at 1-1. The Bucs went on to score two more in the quarter to one from the Hawks. Maritime led, 3-2, at the end of one.

Roger Williams opened the second with a goal that tied the score at 3-3. Then, Sullivan scored two, and Cabot scored once to open the Bucs' lead to their biggest of the night, so far, 6-3. Lee and Cabot scored one more time for their teams, and the Buccaneers led by three at the half, 7-4.

To open the third, the Buccaneers scored five unanswered goals, two from Cabot, and one apiece from Vricella, Barrett, and Mucha to open the lead to eight goals, 12-4. Following the fifth goal by the Buccaneers in the quarter, the Hawks took a timeout and instantly turned the momentum in their favor. Over the last 8:32 of the third quarter, the Hawks scored six unanswered to get the game within two goals, 12-10, at the end of the quarter.

In the fourth, Roger Williams made the unanswered streak seven goals to get within one goal, 12-11. Vricella scored at 11:42 of the fourth, the Bucs' last goal of regulation, to make it 13-11. At 3:04, McKeown scored to make it 13-12, and with 1:22 left in regulation, Shelton scored to tie the game at 13-13. Though each team had another chance at ending the game in regulation, this game was destined for overtime.

In the first overtime period, decided by the first goal scored, the Hawks threatened, even getting a shot off of Visser that would have ended it. Following the save, the Buccaneers went down the field and waited for the right moment to strike. Then, with 2:17 left in the first overtime, Vricella fired a shot from 15 yards out and scored the game-winner. Maritime went on to win, 14-13, and improve to 4-1 on the season.
