Buccaneers Retain Admiral's Cup with Win over Mariners

CASTINE, Maine -- The Buccaneers traveled to Maine to take on Maine Maritime in the annual Admiral's Cup game. The Bucs came back to Buzzards Bay with the Cup in hand winning the game 13-4.

  • Trey Marcil scored two goals in the loss. Ryan Dunstan and Ryan Parent each scored once. 
  • Marcil and Tobey Lapin had an assist apiece in the game.
  • On the ground, Bryce Crowell picked up a game-high nine ground balls and won 11 of 19 faceoffs he took. 
  • Defensively, Matthew Villeneuve caused three turnovers in the loss.
  • In total, Maine Maritime picked up 51 ground balls, was successful on 15 of 39 clearances, won 12 of 21 faceoffs, and took 37 shots in the game.

 

How It Happened

Maine opened the scoring with a goal from Marcil 51 seconds into the first quarter. The Buccaneers followed that with five unanswered goals through the remaining 14:09 of the quarter. With Sullivan scoring twice, and Mucha, McDonough, and Kane each scoring one, the Buccaneers led 5-1 after one quarter.

In the second, the Bucs scored first, but not until there was 7:30 left in the half. Maine got a second from Marcil on a power play to make it qa 6-2 ball game. Sullivan closed out the half with his third of the game. The Buccaneers led the Marines 7-2 at the halftime break.

In the third, there were only two goals scored, both by the Bucs and both with less than three minutes remaining in the quarter. Mass. Maritime led 9-2 heading to the fourth quarter.

In the fourth, Maine bookended four goals from the Bucs to open the quarter from Parents, and a goal to wrap up the scoring with 1:24 left from Dunstan. The Bucs mixed in goals from Vricella, Kane, and two from Cabot and went on to win the Admiral's Cup, 13-4.
