Bucs Walk-off Rams in MASCAC Playoffs

BUZZARDS BAY, Mass -- Serving as the two seed in the MASCAC Playoffs, the Buccaneers baseball team took on the Framingham State Rams Thursday afternoon in the double elimination phase of the postseason tournament. An incredible performance by Hunter Dean on the mound, a home run off the bat of Jake Houston, and a walk-off single from Michael Logiudice propelled the Buccaneers into the winner's bracket on Friday against Bridgewater State.

Inside The Numbers

Framingham

  • Dane Frellick had two hits for the Rams in the loss. Massimo Mondi, Steven Burbank, Jeancarlos Espinal, Daniel Robichaud, Lucas Basile, and Rosco Palmer all had one hit.
  • Robichaud drove in both Rams runs.
  • Frellick and Robichaud scored the runs. 
  • Robichaud had a home run, the only Framingham extra-base hit.

 

How It Happened

Maritime scored in the bottom of the first inning to take a 1-0 lead. Pietrafesa and Velzis hit back-to-back doubles to take an early lead. 

In the top of the second, Robichaud erased the Bucs lead with a two-run home run, putting the Rams up 2-1 after two innings. 

In the bottom of the fifth inning, the Buccaneers brought the game even at 2-2, thanks to a lead-off solo home run from Houston.

The game remained 2-2 throughout the late innings, and the tie wasn't broken until the bottom of the ninth inning when the Buccaneers walked it off. With Velzis at second and two outs in the inning, Logiudice hit a single to right field, just out of the reach of Robichaud at first base, and Velzis came in to score, winning the game for Maritime, 3-2. 

 

What's Next

The win over Framingham send the Buccaneers to the winners bracket of the MASCAC tournament. They will take on the #1 seed Bridgewater State on Friday morning at 10am in Bridgewater.
