Bucs Fumble Lead in Series Opener with Trailblazers

BUZZARDS BAY, Mass -- Buc Baseball hosted MCLA on Friday afternoon in the first game of the three-game MASCAC series between the teams on Taylor's Points. Despite leading 2-0 after two innings, the Buccaneers gave up five runs in the late innings to lose the game, 5-4.

How It Happened

The Buccaneers scored in the bottom of the first to take a 1-0 lead on a Loughren sacrifice fly that drove in Vieira.

In the bottom of the second, Maritime extended their lead to 2-0 with an RBI single off the bat of Pietrafesa, scoring Houston.

After scoreless innings in the third and fourth, MCLA jumped on the board with a bases-loaded Walk of Warriar to bring in one. Maritime led 2-1 after five.

In the top of the seventh, the Trailblazers struck for three runs to take a 4-2 lead. Bissaillon singled in tow runner, and Sardo executed a sacrifice bunt with a runner at third to bring in the third run of the inning. The Bucs got a run back in the bottom of the seventh on a Velzis groundout that brought in Vieira from third. The Bucs trailed 4-3 after seven.

In the top of the eighth, Vargas went yard for the Trailblazers to go back up by two runs, 5-3. 

Down to their final three outs, the Buccaneers scored a run in the bottom of the ninths on a Loughren single that brought in Velzis. Hamel was able to shut the door on the Bucs and strand the tying run at first base to secure the 5-4 win for MCLA.
