Bucs Drop Conference Opener to Bridgewater

BRIDGEWATER, Mass -- Volleyball opened its conference slate of games on Tuesday night against Bridgewater State on the road. The Buccaneers hung around in each of the sets, though they dropped the match in straight sets, 3-0.

 

The Basics

Final: Bears 3, Buccaneers 0 (25-20, 25-18, 25-14)

Records: Maritime 4-8 (0-1)

               Bridgewater 7-3 (1-0)

 

Inside The Numbers

Maritime

  • Maliah Servino led the Bucs offense with four kills. Natalie Gale added three.
  • Shayla Narodowg contributed seven assists and two aces, tied for the team lead in the ace category. Mia Laurent also had two aces in the loss.
  • Defensively, Laurent had a team-high nine digs, and Holly Sanders added seven.
  • At the net, Servino had two solo blocks, and Laurent added one solo.
  • Maritime posted their first negative hitting percentage of the season at -0.056 with 20 points.

Bridgewater

  • Lily Welch had a match-high 12 kills, and Ava Crane and Kim Gowell had 11. 
  • Xin Ai Robinson had 20 assists in the win, and Natalie Frederiksen added 12. 
  • Crane led all players with three aces. 
  • Defensively, Crane and Welch each had nine digs. 
  • At the net, Meachan Coutu had a solo block. Four players had a block assist.
  • Bridgewater had a 0.302 hitting percentage with 56 points.

The Buccaneers travel to North Adams on Saturday to take on MCLA at noon.
