Bucs Volleyball Drops Matches to SUNY Maritime and Mitchell on Opening Day

THROGGS NECK, N.Y. -- The Buccaneers volleyball team opened its season on Saturday in New York against SUNY Maritime and Mitchell College. Though the Bucs played well, they dropped both matches, 3-0, and 3-1.

 

Match One

The Basics

Final: Mariners 3, Buccaneers 0 (25-21, 25-15, 27-25)

Records: Maritime 0-1

               Mitchell 1-1

 

Inside The Numbers

Maritime

  • Maliah Servino led the Bucs with 12 kills in the match. Shayla Narodowg added nine, and Natalie Gale had seven.
  • Narodowg was the team leader in assists with 13, and freshman Natalie Frasca notched eight.
  • On the serve, freshman Holly Sanders recorded three service aces to lead all players, and Frasca had two. 
  • Sanders led the Buccaneers defensively with 19 digs. 
  • Servino was strong at the net with two solo blocks and an assisted block.
  • Maritime posted a 0.068 hitting percentage with 42 points in the match.

Mitchell

  • Genna Hyde led all players with 15 kills. Cimber Jenkins added eight for the winners.
  • Jenna Blankenship had a team-high 13 assists in the match.
  • Hyde led the team with three service aces. 
  • Defensively, Julia Lent had 14 digs, Hyde and Jenkins had 10 apiece.
  • At the net, Miranda Hamilton had a sol oblock and two assisted blocks.
  • Mitchell posted a 0.178 hitting percentage and scored 51 points.

Final: Privateers 3, Buccaneers 1 (25-21, 20-25, 25-13, 25-17)

Records: Mass Maritime 0-2

               SUNY Maritime 2-0

 

Inside The Numbers

Mass Maritime

  • Shayla Narodowg led the Bucs with nine kills in the loss. Mia Laurent and Lola Myers each notched five.
  • Natalie Frasca led the team in assists with 13, and Narodowg tallied 10.
  • Holly Sanders had three more in this match, totalling six on the day.
  • Narodowg led the Buccaneers defensively with 13 digs, and Ashleigh Catlett added 10.
  • At the net, Maliah Servino shined again with one solo block and six assists.
  • Maritime posted a 0.035 hitting percentage and scored 46 points in the match.

SUNY Maritime

  • Grace Devaney had a match-high 15 kills. Addison Weist added 14, and Ashley Pavarini had 12 of her own.
  • Pavarini was the match leader in assists with 21, and Mikaela Thiel had 19 helpers.
  • Defensively, Olivia Casabona had a match-high 18 digs. Joan Anastasiades had 15 digs, and Pavarini added 14.
  • At the net, Emma Demuro had the only block of the match for the Privateers.
  • SUNY posted a 0.16 hitting percentage in the match with 62 points.

 

What's Next

The Buccaneers travel to Mitchell College on September 6th for a tri-match with the Mariners and Mount Saint Vincent Dolphins beginning at noon.
