How It Happened

On the opening drive of the game, the Buccaneers went down the field, 75 yards in 10 plays, and got themselves on the board on a 27-yard touchdown pass from Pierce to Keefe. The Buccaneers held on to their 7-0 lead for the remainder of the quarter.

In the second, the AMCATS evened the score, capping off a 15-play, 87-yard drive with a Boyce to Gasinowski five-yard score. Tied 7-7, the Buccaneers drove down the field with the time dwindling in the first half, going 71 yards on 14 plays and scoring on a Ricketson 14-yard carry. After a missed PAT, the Bucs led 13-7. They took that six-point lead into the halftime break.

Anna Maria received the second-half kickoff and proceeded to drive down the field and tie the game at 13-13, ultimately taking a 14-13 lead after the PAT. Four minutes after their first score of the quarter, AMC drove down the field again, this time going 81 yards in six plays, and scored on a Boyce to Thomas 33-yard connection. The PAT was blocked, and the AMCATS held a seven-point, 20-13 lead midway through the third.

To open the fourth quarter, the Buccaneers put together another long drive of 71 yards in 12 plays and scored on a Pierce one-yard quarterback sneak. The PAT was no good and the Bucs still trailed, now by one point, 20-19. Anna Maria scored one more time in regulation, with 8:31 left on the clock. Blair went in from six yards out and gave his guests a 27-19 advantage. Maritime got the ball back with very little time on the clock late in the fourth. From the AMC 17-yard line and five seconds left on the clock, Pierce found Keefe for a second time to get the Bucs within two points, 27-25. On the ensuing two-point conversion, Pierce found Martinez in the endzone to tie the game at 27-27 with all zeros on the clock.

In the overtime period, Anna Maria got the ball first. They went the 25 yards needed and capped it off with a two-yard Blair run to go up 33-27. The PAT was missed, and the Bucs trailed by six, getting the ball. On the Buccaneers' first overtime possession, penalties were the Achilles heel, and the hosts were unable to find the endzone, going four-and-out, losing the game, 33-27, to the AMCATS on Homecoming Weekend.
