How It Happened

Maritime held the ball for 35 minutes in the win over the Falcons. The only touchdown of the game came on the Bucs' first drive of the contest as they went 71 yards in 11 plays, including a fourth-down conversion on fourth and six on Martinez's 25-yard scamper to set up the offense in Fitchburg territory. Dombroski capped off the drive with a three-yard run up the middle to put the Buccaneers up 7-0. Ultimately, the Bucs took their 7-0 lead into the halftime break.

In the second half, the Buccaneers' defense picked up where they left off and kept the Falcons at bay. In the fourth quarter, Fitchburg went to punt on fourth and one at their own 18-yard line. A fumble snap by Sands led to a tackle for loss by Colin Bower, and the Buccaneers took over at the Fitchburg eight-yard line. Maritime couldn't find the endzone, but Smith knocked through a 31-yard field goal to give the Bucs a commanding two-score, 10-0 lead. The Falcons had two more offensive possessions in the game, and the Maritime defense did not allow them to get into the end zone. The Bucs kneeled out the clock and captured the 10-0 victory in conference.
