How It Happened
The first quarter between the Bucs and Bulldogs was mostly about the teams finding their footing, as there were multiple turnovers and three-and-outs for both teams.
In the second quarter, the Buccaneers got rolling as they opened the quarter with a fake punt on 4th and one yard to gain at their own 44-yard line. Martinez proceeded to take the snap and take off. Looking for the first down, he got so much more as he rumbled 56 yards to the end zone for the touchdown to put the Bucs up 7-0 less than 30 seconds into the second quarter. After two Bulldogs punts and a turnover by the Buccaneers, the Bucs got the ball back with a little over 11 minutes left in the half in Dean territory. From the Bulldogs 36 on second down and 25 to go after a penalty, Moss ran around the left edge and in to the endzone to give Maritime a two-score advantage. Dean punted again on their next drive, and the Buccaneers once again took over with great field position at their own 35. Backed up on second and 18 to go, Pierce found Keefe up the right side for a 59-yard touchdown. The Buccaneers went up 21-0 and took that lead into the halftime break.
Much like the first quarter, the teams got bogged down by turnovers and punts, and neither team was able to score points.
In the fourth, on their first drive of the quarter, the Bucs went 51 yards on 12 plays, taking seven minutes off the clock, and scored one more time on a one-yard run up the middle by Proctor to go up four scores, 28-0. The Buccaneers kept the Bulldogs off the board for the remainder of the game and left Franklin with a 28-0 win over Dean for their first win of the season, moving to 1-1, and 1-0 in conference play.
