Bucs Split with Bulldogs on Taylor's Point
BUZZARDS BAY, Mass -- Maritime softball hosted Dean College on Wednesday afternoon in their final non-conference tuneup before MASCAC play this weekend. The Buccaneers were victorious in game one, 13-5, but faced a setback in game two, losing 10-6.

How It Happened
Dean scored first in the top of the first inning. Ramos scored on a Buccaneers error, then Ostafin singled in Chamberlain to give the Bulldogs a 2-0 lead before the Bucs came to the plate. In the bottom of the first, the Buccaneers answered and then some, scoring five times. Kerecz scored the first run on a wild pitch. Booker then drove Burton in on a groundout. Patane scored next on a Dean miscue, and LeBlanc scored under the same pretense. After one, the Bucs held a 5-2 advantage.
Maritime extended its lead in the bottom of the second with six more runs. Lemons scored on another Dean error, Burton doubled in Kerecz, Patane singled in Burton, LeBlanc drove in Patane, Warren singled in LeBlanc and Gale, and then Warren scored on a second Dean error in the inning. The Bucs led 11-2 after two innings of play.
After a scoreless third, Dean scored two on a wild pitch and an error by the Buccaneers, cutting the deficit to seven runs, 11-4.
The Bulldogs scored again in the top of the fifth, this time on a L. Silva single to bring in Ramos. Up 11-5, needing two runs to win the game by run-rule, the Buccaneers got the two runs they needed in the bottom of the fifth. Kerecz scored on a wild pitch, the 100th run scored of her career, and LeBlanc reached first on a fielder's choice with Burton coming in to score, giving the Bucs an eight-run win, 13-5, in game one.

How It Happened
Dean put one run on the board in the top of the first inning on an Ostafin single down the right field line that scored X. Silva. On the play, Lynch fired a bullet to home plate to cut down Kilpatrick to hold Dean to just one run in the inning.
In the bottom of the second inning, Sellin doubled in Hiddeman to tie the game at 1-1 through two innings of play.
In the top of the third, Chamberlain drove in two runs to retake the lead for Dean, 3-1. Patane knocked in Burton on a groundout in the bottom of the third to cut the deficit to one run, 3-2.
After a scoreless fourth, Dean plated five runs in the top of the fifth inning to take a 7-2 lead. The Bucs got one of the runs back in the bottom of the inning on a solo homer from Patane.
The Bulldogs scored another in the top of the sixth to extend the lead back to five runs, 8-3. The Bucs answered again in the bottom of the sixth, thanks to a single through the right side off the bat of Ward that scored Gale.
In the seventh, Dean scored two in the top of the inning to reach double digits and take a six-run, 10-4, lead. The Bucs got two runs in the bottom of the seventh on a ball hit by Lemons into center field. Misplayed by the Dean centerfielder, Simental and Durham came in to score to cut the score to 10-6. That was all the Bucs could get back as they fell in game two, 10-6, to split the doubleheader.
What's Next
The Bucs are back home on Saturday, March 28th, to play Salem State in their conference opener at noon.
