Maritime Finishes Fifth and Sixth at MASCAC Championships
BRIDGEWATER, Mass -- The Buccaneers track and field teams took part in the MASCAC Championships, hosted by Bridgewater State, on Friday. As a team, the Buccaneer men finished fifth in the meet with 38 points with the women's team finishing sixth with eight points.
For the men, Jamaric McZeal was seventh in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.12 seconds.
In the 10,000-meter run, Robert Kenny was sixth with a time of 36:28.99, less than a second behind the fifth-place finisher from Fitchburg State.
Sophomore Spencer Reese picked up a bronze finish in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 10:17.25.
The Bucs 4x100-meter relay team of Luke Canniff, Demetri Boozer, John Dickinson, and McZeal finished fifth with an overall time of 44.83 seconds, .38 seconds behind Fitchburg in fourth place.
The 4x400-meter relay team of William Humphrey, William Browne, Jason Soares, and Cole Guiliani finished fourth with a time of 3:37.59, picking up four points for Maritime.
Joseph Tully finished third in the high jump with a best of 1.90 meters.
In the men's triple jump, John Shields finished sixth in the event with a best of 11.9 meters.
For the throwers, Liam Higgins was the fourth-place finisher in the shot put with a final throw of 13.85 meters. Higgins finished third in the Javelin with a school record throw of 66.81 meters.
On the women's side, Matilda Laux and Sylvia Mattraw-Johnston were the eighth and ninth place finishers in the 400-meter dash with times of 1:05.90 and 1:14.73, respectively.
In the 3,000-meter steeplechase, Lorelei Lee finished fifth with a time of 13:43.14.
Bridgette Boriolo finished fourth for Maritime in the triple jump with a final jump of 9.77 meters, .04 meters off of third place.
