Buccaneers Compete at Edmondson Invitational

WILLIMANTIC, Conn -- The Buccaneers took part in the Bonnie Edmondson Invitational at Eastern Connecticut on Friday afternoon. Notably, Liam Higgins won the meet's javelin event with a throw of 60.59 meters, winning by more than five meters.

On the women's side of the meet, Makynzi Sprague was the top Bucs finisher in the shot put with an 8.36-meter throw and a 25th-place finish. Sprague finished 29th in the discus with a throw of 21.11 meters. 

In the 400-meter dash, Sylvia Mattraw-Johnston finished 20th with a final time of 1:14.73.

Lorelei Lee picked up a 12th-place finish in the 1500-meter run with a time of 6:07.07, five seconds short of 11th place. Cadence Wasoka and Makenzie Grenier were the 14th and 15th place finishers in the event for the Buccaneers.

To go along with the javelin victory, Higgins finished second in the shot put with a throw of 13.94 meters, and he was seventh in the discus with a 36.33-meter toss.

Back on the javelin field, Tyler Fountain finished fourth with a best throw of 52.35 meters, picking up six points for Maritime.

Higgins wasn't the only event winner for the Bucs as Joey Tully won the men's high jump with a final jump of 1.90 meters, .05 meters better than the second place finisher.

In the men's 100-meter dash, Jamaric McZeal came in sixth with a run of 11.199 seconds, just .007 seconds behind the fifth-place finisher. McZeal was in the top five of the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.83 seconds.

Brennan Shea picked up a fourth-place finish in the men's 110-meter hurdles with a final time of 16.34 seconds. 

The Buccaneers are on to the MASCAC Championships next week in Bridgewater.
