11th Annual Emmanuel Saints Invitational

BOSTON, Mass. -- Both Massachusetts Maritime cross country teams closed out their respective regular season schedules with solid performances at the 11th Annual Emmanuel Saints Invitational on Friday afternoon at Franklin Park, as the Buccaneer men placed seventh of 23 entrants in the event while the Buccaneer women posted a 12th place overall finish among 18 teams competing.
Senior Jake MacVarish (Braintree, Mass.) led the way once again for Massachusetts Maritime on the men’s side, as he posted a time of 27:47 over the 8K layout to finish 26th individually in a field of 192 runners. Junior Robby Galvin (Woburn, Mass.) and freshman Kyle Hansen (North Chelmsford, Mass.) were next with respective 34th and 57th place times of 28:08 and 29:10, while freshman Daniel Plumb (Hopkinton, Mass.) and junior Chris MacKay (Bethany, Conn.) rounded out the Buccaneer scoring with respective times of 29:34 and 29:36 that were good for 69th and 70th places overall. Norwich won the event with a team score of 49 points, as the Cadets outdistanced runner-up Wentworth (71) and third place Colby-Sawyer (74) in the final standings.
Freshman Meaghan Hamilton (Braintree, Mass.) set the pace on the women’s side for Massachusetts Maritime, as she covered the 5K course in a time of 22:21 to finish 47th individually in a field of 167 competitors. Freshman Heather Seggelin (Sharon, Mass.) and junior Kaylene Murphy (Randolph, Mass.) followed with respective 72nd and 103rd place times of 23:26 and 24:58, while seniors Kylie Foster (Sandwich, Mass.) and Celeste Menard (Annandale, Va.) rounded out the Buccaneer scoring with respective 108th and 124th place times of 25:20 and 26:50. Norwich also claimed the team title in the women’s race with a score of 62 points, outdistancing runner-up Plymouth State (96) and third place Colby-Sawyer (112) for the crown.
Both Massachusetts Maritime squads will be idle until Saturday, October 29th when the Buccaneers compete for their respective Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference titles at this year’s league championships hosted by Fitchburg State that begin at 11:00 a.m.
