FINAL: FRAMINGHAM STATE 5, MASSACHUSETTS MARITIME 1
FRAMINGHAM, Mass. -- Junior Kayla Almstrom (Auburn, Mass.) scored a pair of goals to lead Framingham State to a 5-1 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference women’s soccer victory over Massachusetts Maritime Saturday afternoon at Maple Street Field.
Alstrom staked the host Rams (3-8-1, 1-4 MASCAC) to a 1-0 advantage 7:11 into the match with an unassisted tally, but sophomore Jessica Baldassini (Middleboro, Mass.) evened matters for the visiting Buccaneers (3-7, 1-4 MASCAC) five minutes later with her first goal of the season. Sophomore Kaleigh Pallotta (Hanover, Mass.) gave Framingham State the lead for good with just over six minutes to play in the opening half, and sophomore Caitlyn Our (Barnstable, Mass.) extended that margin to 3-1 on a feed from senior Kaelen Larocque (Upton, Mass.) five minutes after intermission. The hosts iced their triumph with a pair of goals from Almstrom and senior Shelly Nardi (Williamsburg, Mass.) in the closing 2:04 of play to account for the final margin.
Junior Jennifer Stevens (Hopkinton, Mass.) picked up the win in goal with a six-save effort for Framingham State, while freshman Mikayla Houlihan (Middleboro, Mass.) made 10 stops in her first career start in net for Massachusetts Maritime. The Rams outshot the Buccaneers by a 26-14 margin overall (15-7 on goal) and took eight of the nine corner kicks in the contest.
Massachusetts Maritime hosts Pine Manor in a non-league outing on Wednesday evening at Clean Harbors Stadium beginning at 7:00 p.m., while Framingham State entertains UMass Boston in a non-league match on Tuesday afternoon at Maple Street Field that begins at 4:00 p.m.
