Tied 8-8 entering the top of the seventh Lizz Harvey (McConnellsburg, PA) singled to drive in Christina Morris (Eatontown, NJ) with the winning run as Wentworth Institute of Technology (2-26) claimed a 9-8 victory in the second game of Wednesday's doubleheader with Massachusetts Maritime Academy (1-22). The Leopards won the opener 15-6 breaking a 46-game winless streak.
MMA scored five times in the bottom of the first in game two, but the Leopards bounced back with eight runs in the top of the fourth. The Lady Buccaneers tied the score in the bottom of the fifth.
Harvey earned the win in game two in relief. She went four and two-third innings allowing three runs on four hits. Bridget Souza (Medford) went 3-for-4 in game two, with two RBI and a run scored. Ashley Glassick (Newport, RI) was 3-for-5.
MMA was led by Jessica O'Meara ( Stoneham) who went 3-for-4 with three RBI and a run scored.
In the first game the Leopards scored four runs in both the first and second frames. MMA answered with six. WIT went up 10-6 in the top of the third then blew the game open with a four-run sixth.
Amanda Schiffer (Seymour, CT) earned the win in game one in six innings of work. She allowed six runs on 10 hits.
Glassick was a perfect 4-for-4 with five runs scored and an RBI in game one for the Leopards. Harvey went 3-for-5. O'Meara, Cali Longtin (Feeding Hills), Mallory Harris (Longmeadow) and Katie Maynard (Chelmsford) each had two hits for MMA.
