Tufts Arctic Circle Invitational

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -- The Massachusetts Maritime dinghy sailing team began its spring season with a solid performance at the eight-team Tufts Arctic Circle Team Invitational over the weekend on the Charles River, as three Buccaneer vessels combined to capture four races in the competition.
Sophomore Jeffrey Adam (Newport, R.I.) and freshman Jacquelynn Devore (Chesapeake, Va.) comprised Massachusetts Maritime’s “A” entry, while junior Ryan Novak-Smith (Johnston, R.I.) and freshman Braden Foster (Trumbull, Conn.) competing in three races in the “A” boat as well over the weekend. Foster and junior George Luber (North Redington Beach, Fla.) comprised the Buccaneer “B” entry, while sophomore Sergio Gratta (Sarasota, Fla.) and freshman Frank Reeg (Spring Lake, Mich.) were in the “C” vessel and alternated in a pair of races with junior Evan Sampou (West Newbury, Mass.) and freshman McKenna Jarvis (Dedham, Mass.).
Host Tufts took top honors in the event by winning 16 of 19 races in the competition, while MIT and Roger Williams tied for second with 15 wins each. Massachusetts Maritime, which finished seventh overall on the weekend, also competed against Rhode Island, Vermont, Boston University and Salve Regina.
The Buccaneers return to action next weekend with competition at both MIT and Sacred Heart, and Massachusetts Maritime will also host the Central Series One Regatta next Sunday morning at the Keith Hartford Sailing Center in Bourne.
