FINAL: MASSACHUSETTS MARITIME 2, FRAMINGHAM STATE 0
FRAMINGHAM, Mass. -- Sophomore William Taylor (Hanover, Mass.) netted a goal and an assist as Massachusetts Maritime took over sole possession of first place in the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference men’s soccer standings with a 2-0 league victory over Framingham State Sunday evening at Maple Street Field.
Freshman Justin Le (Springfield, Mass.) gave the visiting Buccaneers (7-7-1, 4-1-1 MASCAC) the only goal they would need in the 19th minute of play with his first collegiate marker on a feed from Taylor, who provided an insurance tally in the 58th minute (his fourth of the season) to account for the final margin. Junior Mike Pruchnik (Rochester, Mass.) made that stand up in goal for Massachusetts Maritime by making five saves in net to record his sixth win and second shutout of the season, as the visitors head into the final weekend of conference play with a one-point lead over second place Worcester State and a three-point edge over third place MCLA and Bridgewater State for the top spot in the league standings.
Junior Josh Arno (Natick, Mass.) made five first half saves in suffering the setback in goal for the host Rams (7-9, 3-3 MASCAC), who also received first stops from freshman Dennis Siaw (Leominster, Mass.) in the final 45 minutes of play. Massachusetts Maritime outshot Framingham State by a 19-13 margin overall (12-5 on goal), as each team took three corner kicks on the evening.
Massachusetts Maritime hosts 16th-ranked UMass Boston in a non-league outing on Wednesday evening at Clean Harbors Stadium beginning at 7:00 p.m., while Framingham State heads to Worcester, Mass. on Wednesday evening for a non-league match with Clark that also begins at 7:00 p.m.
