Rory Deegan enters his sixth season as Head Men’s Lacrosse Coach at the Massachusetts Maritime looking to build on a foundation of success he has helped construct for the program over the last seven years. Deegan has guided the Buccaneers to 29 victories in his five campaigns at the helm, including seven triumphs on two occasions in a three-year span, while mentoring five all-league performers as well as 30 NEWMAC & Pilgrim League All-Academic honorees.
A native of Wading River, N.Y., Deegan served as an assistant to former Buccaneer standout and head coach Barry Joyce for two years before assuming the head position in 2010. In his first year with the program as an assistant, Deegan helped lead the squad to a nine-win campaign in 2009 that saw Massachusetts Maritime advance to the semi-final round of the ECAC Division III New England Championships.
Deegan, who serves as an Assistant Director in the Academy’s Regiment of Cadets (ComCad), was a standout attack at Division I Manhattan College, where he earned a degree in Psychology in 2000. He served as Assistant Men’s Lacrosse Coach at Alvernia College in Reading, Pa. before coming to Massachusetts Maritime, where in addition to his assistant coaching duties with the men’s program, he also served as the Academy’s head club women’s lacrosse Coach during the 2009-10 academic year.
