Each year, Massachusetts Maritime Academy celebrates National Maritime Day, paying tribute to our country's maritime heritage and honoring Merchant Marines past, present and future, by showcasing the Regiment of Cadets at the annual Change of Command ceremony.
Congress established May 22nd as National Maritime Day in 1933, for the purpose of recognizing the contributions and sacrifices of the United States Merchant Marine. With flags flying, the one thousand five hundred cadets of Massachusetts Maritime Academy will march into Clean Harbors Athletic Stadium to honor their own, beginning at 4 p.m. The Change of Command ceremony signifies the transfer of Regimental leadership from one class to the next.
The Change of Command is open to all, but for those unable to attend, the event will be screened live here. The Massachusetts Maritime Academy Public Safety Officers will be assisting with traffic control and guiding visitors who require special access. Restrooms will be available in the gymnasium.
Congratulations to the Class of 2018 on their exemplary achievements and we look forward to impressive accomplishments from the Class of 2019!
